Welcome to Seacole House
Named after Mary Seacole, a British-Jamaican nurse and businesswoman who set up the ‘British Hotel’ on the battlefields of the Crimean War. It was her compassion, bravery and savvy skills that earned her recognition. In more recent years she was voted as the ‘Greatest Black Briton’ and was awarded posthumously the Jamaican Order of Merit. It is this medal that we styled our House emblem on. The flowers around its edge symbolise the purple (Mrs Mustill’s favourite colour!) Jamaican national flower and we added the nursing cross.
