Bishop Laney Sixth Form

16 to 19 Tuition Fund

What is the 16 – 19 Tuition Fund?

The 16 to 19 tuition fund is ring-fenced funding for schools, colleges and all other 16 to 19 institutions who receive annual funding allocations from ESFA for the provision of 16 to 19 education, to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).

The funding is to support small group tuition for students aged 16 to 19 in English, maths and other subjects that have been disrupted, including vocational and/or academic learning.

Department for Education, 2021

More details can be found here.

How is the fund being used at Bishop Laney Sixth Form?

At Bishop Laney our purpose is to ensure that every student is known, valued and supported. As a member of the Meridian Trust; we deliver this purpose through the trust’s five values.

The fund is helping to secure achievement for all by providing small group tuition in English and Maths to those students who have not yet secured a Grade 4 in either GCSE English, GCSE Maths or both; and who were studying for those qualifications at some point during the previous two academic years.

It is also available to support students who have achieved these qualifications at Grade 4 but are from an economically disadvantaged background.

The 16 – 19 Tuition Fund will be used to provide:
  • Supplementary small group (5 students or fewer) tuition in GCSE English and GCSE Maths for students who have not achieved a Grade 4.
  • Capacity to deliver GCSE Maths in small groups (5 students or fewer) to students to support their progression to and within Level 3 qualifications.
  • Additional English as a second language support for students on a one to one basis, who meet the above criteria and whose first language is not English to support wider progression and development.

Any queries relating to this fund, or its use should be directed to office@bishoplaney.org; or telephone 01353 652818.
