  • Launch of New Community Directory event to support residents

    Published 17/01/25

Ely College is proud to announce the launch of its ‘Community Directory Day’, an inspiring new platform that aims to bring together local clubs, societies and groups with the residents of Ely. This inaugural event, which took place last weekend, signposted over 40 different organisations, and its success means it may become a regular occurrence.

“We are thrilled with the success of our first Community Directory Day! On Saturday (11th Jan) we welcomed over 500 members of our community, eager to explore the varied range of clubs available in and around Ely. This event is a testament to our commitment to fostering a vibrant and engaged community, where everyone can find something that piques their interest or discover their next adventure.”

With something for everybody and open to all ages, these Directory Days seek to ‘connect’ people; in the hopes of making it easier for residents to discover new hobbies, activities and services on their doorsteps. By connecting people we can raise awareness, supporting these grassroots organisations, but also enrich people’s lives, fostering a sense of unity and belonging, whilst supporting mental health and well-being.

Sam Rasmussen, Vice Principal at Ely College also commented: “It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together at a time in the year where traditionally people often struggle alone or are looking to make a change with new year resolutions. Highlighting volunteering opportunities as well as boosting new membership, these are activities that can help residents live healthy, active and purposeful lives. So many activities are intergenerational, so this was truly an inspirational event for our young people and students, many of whom are already active member of their communities. It was great to see so many of them there encouraging others to get involved.”

“At the heart of these efforts is our unwavering belief in the power of community. When we come together, share our stories, and support one another, we create a ripple effect that resonates throughout Ely. Together, we can build a future where everyone feels valued, included, and empowered to make a positive difference.”

Ely College is pleased to open its doors and offer its facilities for the Directory Day and encourages new groups to participate in the next event or book the College as a venue. • Community Directory Day - this weekend!

    Published 09/01/25

Happy new year!  As we start the spring term and are all considering the changes we want to make as we enter 2025 I wanted to make you aware that the College is hosting its first Ely Directory Day this Saturday 11th January between 10am and 2pm.  The event is open to all residents of Ely and aims to showcase the variety of different clubs, groups, societies and opportunities that are available for local people to become involved in.  With over 40 stalls it promises to have something of interest to everyone in the family.  We encourage you to drop in to have a chat and find like-minded enthusiasts or a new challenge for this year.  There will be refreshments available and there is no entry charge.  Please share this widely with your neighbours and friends so we reach as many of the community as possible.  We look forward to seeing you there this Saturday.
