Artsmark and Arts Award

Ely College has recently gained the SILVER Artsmark Award. We believe every child should have the opportunity to create, compose, and perform, as well as to visit, experience, participate in and review extraordinary work. This Artsmark has helped unlock the potential of our children and young people, continuing to help to develop character and talent, and increase their knowledge and understanding.

That’s why Artsmark was created: to bring this ambition to life in every classroom. Awarded by Arts Council England, designed by schools, the new Artsmark award helps schools like Ely College, deliver a high quality arts and cultural education and provide an excellent way to demonstrate this. Across the country Artsmark is rewarding more and more schools for championing arts and culture.  Artsmark schools gain access to exceptional resources as well as networks of the country’s most treasured cultural organisations, helping them develop and strengthen their arts provision.

We are very proud of this achievement and would like to thank our fantastic students and staff for their excellence and drive in taking our arts provision to a new level. Mr Warburton commented: "This award demonstrates our clear commitment to the value of arts experiences and education for our students and the wider community. The launch of our whole college show in the Autumn term is one of many activities that will enable us to work towards the Gold Artsmark."

We are also encouraging our students to work towards their personal Arts Award. These unique qualifications inspire young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible.

Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four qualifications and an introductory award.

Ely College are currently delivering the Bronze Award. To achieve a Bronze Arts Award, young people collect evidence in an individual arts log or portfolio of their experiences of:

  • actively participating in any art form
  • at least one arts event and their review of that event
  • researching the career and work of an artist or craftsperson
  • passing on an arts skill

In Drama our students have watched a National Theatre production of Peter Pan and have written a review. Some of their work will be shown below for assessment evidence and to encourage other students to engage in the Arts Award programme.
