Admission Arrangements

As an Academy, the Academy Council is responsible for establishing the Admission Criteria and oversubscription criteria for the College; the Academy Council agreed to follow the admissions and oversubscription criteria set by Cambs County Council. These criteria have not been changed by the Academy Council following the establishment of the Academy. The responsibility for the administration of the Admissions process remains with the Local Authority.

Ely College has an agreed admission number of 270 students and will accordingly admit 270 students in the relevant age group each year if sufficient applications are received.

Ely College Catchment Area

Catchment area: Children living in the area of the following primary schools fall within the catchment area: Ely St Mary’s Junior, Ely St. John’s, Isle of Ely, Lantern, Downham Feoffees, Littleport1 and Millfield1.

1 While children living within the catchment area of this primary school will be considered to be living
within the catchment area for Ely College, it will not be considered as their catchment school for home-to-
school transport purposes, as Littleport & East Cambs Academy is closer to their home address.


Oversubscription criteria

Children who have a statement of special educational needs that names the school will be admitted. NB. Those children with a statement of special educational needs or education health and care plan that does not name the school will be referred to the Statutory Assessment Team (S.A.T) to determine an appropriate place.


1. Children in Care, also known as Looked After Children (LAC); and children who were looked after but ceased to be so by reason of adoption, a resident order or a special guardianship order; and children who appear to the Admission Authority to have been in state care (i.e. in the care of or accommodated by a public authority, religious organisation or any other provider whose sole/main purpose is to benefit society) outside of England but ceased to be so as a result of being adopted only.
2. Children who live in the catchment area, attend primary schools within the catchment
area and who have a sibling at the school at the time of admission;
3. Children who live in the catchment area with a sibling at the school at the time of
admission;
4. Children who live in the catchment area and attend primary schools within it
5. Children who live in the catchment area.
6. Children who live outside the catchment area, who attend primary schools within it and
who have a sibling at the school at the time of admission;
7. Children who live outside the catchment area who have a sibling at the school at the
time of admission;
8. Children who live outside the catchment area who attend the primary schools within the
catchment area
9. Children who live outside the catchment area, but nearest the school as measured by a
straight line.


In cases of equal merit priority will go to children living nearest the school by shortest
