Year 7 Drama

Term 1:  Fairy Tales

Students are set the drama challenge of creating short production based on a well-know fairy tale that is assessed towards the end of the half term.  Students learn the storytelling structure of beginning, middle and end to help then to develop their own dramatic pieces as a group.

Homework 1 : To complete a character study of their chosen character

Homework 2: To complete elements of the script within the development process

Homework 3: To learn lines in preparation for the practical assessment

 

Term 2:  Pantomime

Students apply their learning from Unit 1 and further develop their knowledge and understanding of working towards a structured performance piece by creating their own production of ‘Cinderella’.

Homework 1: To complete a character study of their chosen character

Homework 2: To complete elements of the script within the development process

Homework 3: To learn lines in preparation for the practical assessment

 

Term 3:  Voice Over

Students learn about preparing their voice for performance through a series of breathing and relaxation workshops.  They are set the challenge to prepare for an individual voice over audition for a casting agency.

Homework 1 : To complete research into the definition of dramatic techniques and voice preparation

Homework 2: To enhance and develop their voice over scripts

Homework 3: To learn their lines in preparation for the practical assessment

 

Term 4:  Silent Movie

Students learn basic mime technique and the discipline that this demands.  Students explore the stimulus of ‘The Poor Wretch’ to create their own group silent movies that are recorded, assessed and evaluated.

Homework 1 : Students will be asked to research the genre of Silent Movies to gather evidence to help plan and develop their own pieces

Homework 2: Students are asked to complete a detailed storyboard for their Silent Movie to support planning for filming

Homework 3: Students will be asked to rehearse and prepare their character for filming

 

Term 5:  Commedia Dell Arte

Students are taught the basics of mask work based on the origins of ‘the Comedy of Art’.  Students create their own piece of masked work based on given stimulus that will be practically assessed and evaluated.

Homework 1 : Students will be asked to research mask work and Commedia dell Arte

Homework 2: Students will be asked to design their own masks for their chosen character

Homework 3: Students will be asked to rehearse and prepare for their practical assessment

 

Term 6:  Page to Stage

In this unit of work students will be identifying and applying the key structures and conventions of play texts to their work.  This unit will be assessed by a practical group assessment of a chosen scene from the play.

Homework 1 : Students are asked to write their own scripts for performance

Homework 2: Students are asked to complete a detailed character study

Homework 3: Students are asked to rehearse and prepare for their practical assessment
