The Great Ely Sewing Bee
This club was set up by the Textiles teacher Miss Collin and involved students from Year 7 through to Year 10 as well as college staff. All students learn key textiles and fashion construction skills which are used to produce a final product for judging at the end of the Academic year.
In July of 2015 Phoebe Edwards and Miss Swanser won the prize of the The Great Ely College sewing Bee of 2015.

Year 7 students study three main disciplines product design, textiles and catering. The focus for the units is to provide students with a variety of skills and provide pupils with an experience that builds their confidence and knowledge in key competences for each of the areas. Projects for this year focus on Designing, Planning, Making and Evaluating and these areas form the basis of how students work will be assessed.
In Year 8 students build on their Year 7 skills expertise by focussing on the development of design proposals and outcomes. They design for target markets and look at products in a more holistic way rather than just focusing on one main material, process or ingredient. Students work is assessed against key areas which include research, designing, planning, making and evaluating.
In Year 9 pupils opt for three areas of study. This provides them with a more specialist and focussed experience with a clear link to the requirements of a GCSE Technology option. The areas of study include: Textiles, Catering and Product Design. Product Design is split into three areas: design, engineering and construction. Students work is assessed against key areas which include research, designing, planning, making and evaluating.
